Established in 1974, FEMS is now an active and diverse federation of 57 European learned societies that includes around 30,000 professionals who are committed to advancing microbiology for the benefit of society. Located in 41 European countries, around half of these professionals are early career researchers, and the remainder include industry scientists, established academics, educators and campaigners.

About Serbian Society for Microbiology
The Serbian Society for Microbiology’s aims are:
- gathering all the professional and scientific workers that engage in research in the field of microbiology; Improving and development of professional and scientific-research work of all thebranches of microbiology
- helping the improvement of education in various fields of microbiology onfaculties and in other schools in the sense of improving experts in appropriate fields
- popularization of scientific achievements of all the fields of microbiology
- preparation and organization of scientific meetings (congress, symposium,counseling etc.) dedicated togeneral or special issues in domestic andinternational frames
- Organization of lectures and visits of experts from abroad;. Permanent improvement of profession and encouraging exchange of personnel
